“Shatter Me” Solo Costume Design

Saturday, April 25th, 2015

I’m a dancer and a fashion designer. I plan to do both professionally, and I’m currently training very hard to become a professional ballerina (while spending my free time making clothes and costumes!).

I recently competed in a dance competition in a solo performance of the Lindsey Stirling/Lzzy Hale song “Shatter Me”. I was inspired by this song to make my own costume. I envisioned broken glass, shattering across the floor. Using that image, I collected a variety of glass-looking fabrics and created something soft and very dance-able. I’m very happy with how chaotic it turned out. To me, it fits the style of the song perfectly. I even made a headpiece.

Here are a few of my “Shatter Me” costume photos:

Flapper Girl 2014 Style (Halloween)

When deciding what to be for Halloween every year, it always depends on several things: Can I walk in it? How much time is necessary to make it? How much will it cost?

With those things in mind, I decided to be a 1920’s Flapper Girl this year. When shopping for material at my beloved SAS Fabrics store in Tucson, Arizona, I couldn’t find any solid colored stretch fabrics that really called to me. Suddenly, one flower print did. Using the print as my base, I bought three coordinating fringes (of the same lengths) and three wire butterflies. While not 1920’s authentic, I love the result! [P.S. Do you recognize the print fabric? It’s the same fabric that I used for my mom’s birthday dress. That dress used my Halloween leftovers!]

Being vegan, I didn’t want to use real feathers in the headpiece, so I found some cool wire butterflies that I absolutely adored! They even match my fringe!

What do you think? What has been your favorite Halloween costume? I’d love to see your photos, too! Feel free to post them on my Teagan’s Creations Facebook fan page!
